Background Check Frequently Asked Questions

How will I learn my results?

Your provider supervisor will be able to review the status of your background check or drug test through the Service Profiles menu in their Provider Command Center. If you are the provider supervisor, just select the Service Profiles menu and look for the individual technician's information. You will see one column for background check and one for drug test. The provider supervisor will see "Pending" until the results have been transmitted by ChoicePoint. When these results have been transmitted, the provider supervisor will see "Pass" or "Ineligible."

PLEASE NOTE: you must allow 10 business days for the background check to be complete.

How much does the background check cost me?

The cost of a background check through OnForce is $45.00. That price includes Social Security Number verification, searches of national, county, and municipal court records, and sexual offender databases. Similar searches can cost hundreds of dollars. In some cases, buyers may choose to pay for individual providers or groups of providers.

Why do I have to get a background check? That seems like a violation of my privacy.

You only need to request that ChoicePoint complete a background check if you want to. This is completely your choice and is not required to remain on the OnForce platform. If you elect not to request a background check, however, you will be unable to complete work orders for those buyers that require background checks.

ChoicePoint will send only a 'Pass' or 'Ineligible' result to OnForce. The details of your background check are not captured within the platform, only the result.

What happens if I receive an "Ineligible" result?

As soon as OnForce is notified by ChoicePoint (via XML link) that you have received an 'Ineligible' result, OnForce will set your account to "Background Check Ineligible". If your account is set to this status, you will not be routed any new work orders and you will be unable to perform any additional service for OnForce buyers. No buyer will see that you have received an 'Ineligible,' but they will not be able to see your profile or route work orders to you.

The information that ChoicePoint presents is captured directly by courthouses and criminal registries. They base the decision based upon the criteria established by OnForce (found here).

Within 48 hours, ChoicePoint will mail you a copy of the background report. If you believe that the information on the report is inaccurate, you should contact the ChoicePoint Consumer Disclosure Department at 1-800-845-6004. If there is, indeed an error with the court records, ChoicePoint will amend the original result, and send OnForce a new 'Pass' result and your Service Profile will be reactivated.

If you need more clarification on why your background check resulted in an Ineligible, you can reach out to our support team at . They do not have access to your background check report, but can provide guidance on why a certain charge might result in an Ineligible.

What are the criteria for Passing the Background Check?

In order for ChoicePoint to send a 'Pass' result, you must have no felony or misdemeanor convictions (excluding some minor offenses, including non-injury inducing traffic convictions) in the past seven years. Additionally, you must not have any action related to a felony for the past seven years - for example, if you were convicted of a felony 15 years ago, but were on probation until 5 years ago, you would receive an 'Ineligible.' For a DUI or DWI without injury, you may have one conviction only within the seven year period. Additionally, you must not be classified as a Sexual Offender or have any pending court cases for a crime that would make you Ineligible if they resulted in a conviction.

Can I take a background check again?

If you believe the results you received were based on erroneous information, you can communicate directly with ChoicePoint at their Consumer Disclosure Department at 1-800-845-6004. If ChoicePoint amends their initial finding, you will be reinstated to 'Active' status.

If you receive an Ineligible result and are unable to resolve the issues with ChoicePoint, you will be unable to take a subsequent background check.
